From the most successful team of the 80’s to their sharp decline in the 90’s and early 2000’s, the Tigers are always a story. Though Tiger Stadium was the home field of Al Kaline, Ty Cobb, Hank Greenberg, and a slew of other baseball greats, the new Comerica Park is an experience in itself. Detroit is a city in decay, but to step through the giant gates at the Park is like getting away from the troubles of Detroit. While in the park, baseball is all that matters. And as of late, baseball has been very good there. With a dramatic World Series appearance in 2006 and an exciting division race in 2009, the Tigers are a rising force in baseball. GM David Dombrowski is a brilliant baseball mind and is capable of finding real talent; and owner Mike Illitch is more than willing to spend to win. While the Tigers don’t have the money or the market that the Yankees or the Red Sox have, the Tigers have an equally enthusiastic fan base. Despite the collapse of the Michigan economy, Tigers baseball has still drawn great crowds. Detroit truly is a sports city, and in the summer, baseball is all that matters.
